Small crematoria are being added to many funeral homes labeled as “accessories”, and a lot of them are in the middle of residential areas. However, these small crematoria have started to damage people’s health due to their insufficient pollution control and cannot only smell and smoke, but more importantly release high levels of detrimental, health effecting pollution such as mercury, toxins and fine particulate emissions, and even PCDDs, PCDFs and PFASs.
In the past few years, a lot of studies, publications, newspaper articles and websites have been started to address the health damaging effects of small crematoria, here is a small sampling of many:
An excellent overview article was published in “Chemie Ingenieur Technik”: Mercury and particular matter emissions from crematoria.

Today, the detrimental effects of crematoria emissions are well known, such as the neurological health damage from Mercury emissions of crematoria – here is one of many recent articles on the effects of Mercury on Alzheimer's: Comprehensive Review Regarding Mercury Poisoning and Its Complex Involvement in Alzheimer’s Disease
https://www.mdpi.com/1422-0067/23/4/1992
Dr. Joseph Mercola published an excellent overview of the neurological health effects of Mercury in: Exposing the Dangers of Mercury

There is an older publication about “Mercury and The Developing Brain” explaining the terrible effects especially on unborn and on young children in terms of mental development:
How much Mercury can possibly be emitted by crematoria: Rudi A Bondia has an excellent website with a ton of good information even on levels of Mercury and other toxins released by crematoria – Americans have 500-600 tons of mercury in their mouth and current age group 75+ has about 7 fillings in their mouth, good for 3.5 to 4.2 gram of mercury - there are many excellent pages and explanations:

He even explains why current crematoria that pop up in residential areas have insufficient smokestacks and all here:

Another excellent website explains many details such as how the EPA excluded crematoria from the incinerator pollution control bill – that was a crime fueled by the crematorium furnace manufacturers and lobbyists:

Some say today’s crematoria do not smell or smoke as they burn at high temperatures – that is nonsense, as it takes a long time to get a 300lbs body up to that temperature and during the heat-up the emissions are horrible. During the highs of the Covid pandemic that was clearly shown how badly crematoria smoke and how terrible the emissions actually are as covered by many news articles such as this one:
A quote from crematoria owner: The occasional smoke coming from crematorium chimneys is an inevitable byproduct of the cremation process, said James Ahearne, COO of Messinger Mortuaries, the company that oversees Paradise Memorial Crematory. “Every crematory will smoke, if they tell you they don’t, they’re lying,” he said. “It’s just the way it is.”
Now comes what is most disturbing – To be able to afford better pollution control equipment larger crematoria are built far away from residential areas all over the world and extensive studies on the pollution are being conducted and published all over the world, all over Europe, in Canada, and EVEN IN CHINA:
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5931459/
And in the US: crematoria were exempted from the last, badly needed incinerator pollution bill due to lobbyist influence and the EPA has closed their eyes with respect to all of these terribly polluting, small crematoria popping up everywhere even in residential areas and this behavior is reckless to the health of the people in this country!
